The House on Mango Street — Stories, Language & Community
At DarKha Academy, our Bilingual Book Club is more than a reading group; it’s a warm and welcoming space where language, culture and conversation come together 🌍☕

This month we are reading The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, exploring the stories in both English and Spanish together.
So far, we have read and discussed the first three stories, discovering themes that resonate deeply with language learners and multicultural communities:
✨ identity and belonging
🏡 the meaning of home
🗣 finding your voice between languages and cultures
🌍 growing up between different worlds
One of the things our group loved most is how the book captures everyday moments with honesty, simplicity and emotion — making it perfect for practicing both English and Spanish naturally through discussion and shared reflection.
At our next meeting, we will continue reading the next two stories together and explore:
📖 new vocabulary and expressions
💬 conversation and pronunciation practice
🎭 cultural themes and personal interpretation
☕ real communication in a relaxed bilingual environment
