What happens when one of our own community members happens to be a talented artist and printmaker with more than 20 years of experience?
We ask him to share his passion with us, of course! 😍
On Sunday, November 15, the DarKha Bilingual Community is heading to the Museum of Fine Arts in Xàtiva for a special guided visit to its remarkable collection of etchings by Francisco de Goya.
And our guide? None other than Philip Hartigan, an artist, experienced printmaker, teacher and valued member of our bilingual community!
🖼️ Goya: More Than Just a Famous Painter
Francisco de Goya is one of the most important figures in Spanish and European art history. While many people know him for his paintings, his prints reveal another fascinating side of his creativity.
Through his etchings, Goya explored human nature, society, superstition, conflict and the world around him. His images can be beautiful, unsettling, mysterious and sometimes surprisingly humorous.
And here's something special: Xàtiva's Museum of Fine Arts has a permanent display of dozens of Goya's etchings, an extraordinary collection that offers visitors the chance to appreciate this side of his work up close.
Sometimes the most fascinating cultural treasures are right on our doorstep!
🎨 Discovering the Secrets of Printmaking with Phil
With over 20 years of experience as a printmaker and teacher, Philip Hartigan will help us discover the stories behind Goya's prints.
During our visit, Phil will explain:
- Why printmaking was so important in Goya's artistic life.
- The fascinating themes and stories behind his etchings.
- How artists create prints using copper plates and the traditional etching process.
And because Phil is one of our own DarKha community members, this isn't just another museum tour. It's a wonderful opportunity to share our talents, learn from one another and enjoy culture together.
The guided visit will be in Spanish, making it a lovely opportunity for our English-speaking members to practise listening and discover new vocabulary in a real cultural setting.
