This month, we'll read aloud together from The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. 📕✨ We'll explore a couple of its short stories in both English and Spanish, taking turns reading, listening, discussing vocabulary, and talking about the ideas and cultural themes behind the stories.

What is the DarKha Academy Bilingual Book Club?
The Bilingual Book Club is a relaxed language exchange in Xàtiva where English and Spanish learners read together, discuss stories and practise speaking and listening. Readers of different language levels are welcome to participate at their own pace.
What book are we reading this month?
We’ll read selected stories from The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros. Its short, accessible stories offer opportunities to explore everyday language, identity, family, culture and community in both English and Spanish.
How does reading aloud help you learn a language?
Reading aloud helps language learners improve pronunciation, rhythm, vocabulary and speaking confidence. Listening to other readers also develops comprehension and exposes learners to different accents and ways of expressing themselves.
Do I need to speak English or Spanish fluently?
No. The Bilingual Book Club is designed for people who want to practise and improve. You can read aloud, join the discussion or simply listen until you feel comfortable participating.
When and where is the Bilingual Book Club in Xàtiva?
The next DarKha Academy Bilingual Book Club takes place on Thursday, July 30 at 19:30 at Carrer Sant Domènec, 32, Xàtiva. Participants are invited to bring a snack or drink to share. 📚☕🍪
