November English Activities for Kids in Xàtiva | DarKha Academy

November at DarKha Academy: From Farm to Table, Science to Gratitude! 🍎🥕🔬
A month of food, discovery, culture and meaningful English learning
November is bringing a delicious new adventure to DarKha Academy! 🍂
After a wonderfully creative October filled with autumn discoveries, Halloween activities and hands-on cooking, we're ready to explore a new theme: FOOD — Fruits, Vegetables and the World Around Us!
But at DarKha, food is much more than vocabulary on a worksheet. It's an opportunity to discover where our food comes from, practise everyday conversations, investigate science, explore other cultures and reflect on the importance of gratitude.
Throughout November, our students will learn through four connected weekly themes, each designed to reinforce previous lessons while introducing new language in meaningful, memorable ways.
Because at DarKha, languages aren't just learned… they're LIVED! 💙
🌽 November 2–6: From Farm to Store!
Where does our food come from?
We begin November by exploring the fascinating journey of food: from the farm, to the shop, to our tables.
Our students will discover and practise vocabulary related to fruits, vegetables, farms, supermarkets and everyday shopping.
Through interactive games, sorting activities, role-play and creative projects, children will learn to identify foods, describe their characteristics and communicate in familiar situations.
Our learning goals:
- Identify and name common fruits and vegetables in English.
- Reinforce colours, shapes, numbers and descriptive adjectives.
- Understand basic food categories and where different foods come from.
- Practise expressions such as “I like apples,” “I don't like carrots,” and “Can I have some bananas, please?”
- Develop confidence through shopping role-play and teamwork.
From our youngest learners to our older students, activities will be adapted to encourage curiosity, participation and practical communication.
The big question: Where does our food come from? 🌱
🔬 November 9–13: Food Meets Science!
The Magic Colour-Changing Experiment
Who says science and English can't make a little magic together?
During our second week, we'll reinforce food and vegetable vocabulary through an exciting, hands-on science experiment using red cabbage.
Students will investigate how a natural pigment in red cabbage changes colour when mixed with different household ingredients.
As they observe, predict and experiment, they'll practise English naturally through scientific discovery.
Our learning goals:
- Review vegetable names, colours and descriptive vocabulary.
- Reinforce action verbs such as pour, add, mix, stir and observe.
- Practise sequencing with first, next, then and finally.
- Make simple predictions and describe results.
- Develop observation, problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
Younger children will focus on colours, actions and sensory exploration, while older students will work with predictions, explanations and scientific vocabulary.
The big question: Can a vegetable help us discover science? 🌈
🥔 November 16–20: A Taste of American Culture!
Thanksgiving Cooking Project: Mashed Potatoes
Food is one of the most enjoyable ways to discover another culture!
With Thanksgiving approaching in the United States, we'll introduce our students to this American tradition through a simple and delicious cooking project: mashed potatoes.
A familiar vegetable becomes the starting point for learning about American food traditions, family gatherings and the cultural importance of sharing a meal.
Students will practise following instructions, describing ingredients and using English as they prepare their dish.
Our learning goals:
- Reinforce food vocabulary and cooking verbs.
- Practise quantities, measurements and recipe instructions.
- Use sequencing language to explain a process.
- Explore Thanksgiving as a cultural tradition in the United States.
- Compare food traditions in Spain and America.
- Build independence, cooperation and communication skills.
And, of course, there's an important life lesson hidden in every recipe: learning to follow instructions, work together and appreciate the food we prepare.
The big question: How does food bring people together? 🇺🇸🇪🇸
🌍 November 23–27: Gratitude Around the World
Our DarKha Gratitude Tree
We finish November with a beautiful theme: gratitude, kindness and appreciation.
Inspired by the season of Thanksgiving, we'll explore how people around the world express thanks and celebrate the people, experiences and things that matter to them.
Our students will create a DarKha Gratitude Tree, filling it with colourful leaves expressing what they're thankful for.
From simple words and pictures to complete sentences and thoughtful reflections, every student will have an opportunity to participate at their own level.
Our learning goals:
- Learn and practise vocabulary related to feelings, family, friendship and kindness.
- Use expressions such as “Thank you,” “I'm thankful for…” and “I appreciate…”
- Reinforce sentence building and speaking confidence.
- Discover cultural similarities and differences.
- Encourage empathy, respect, reflection and community spirit.
Our Gratitude Tree will remind us that language learning is also about learning to connect with others.
The big question: What are you thankful for? 💛
💙 Building on What We've Already Learned
One of the most important parts of the DarKha approach is that learning doesn't begin again every Monday.
Instead, we build on familiar vocabulary, grammar and experiences, helping children make connections and use English with increasing confidence.
This November, we'll continue reinforcing:
Vocabulary: Colours, numbers, food, actions, feelings and descriptive language.
Grammar and sentence structures: Likes and dislikes, questions, instructions, sequencing, comparisons and age-appropriate descriptions.
Communication: Asking and answering questions, expressing preferences, giving instructions, sharing opinions and presenting ideas.
Life skills: Creativity, cooperation, curiosity, independence, cultural awareness and gratitude.
Every age group will explore these goals through activities adapted to their developmental stage and English level.
🌎 Connecting English Speaking Worlds and Spain Through Language
At DarKha Academy, bilingual education is about more than translating words.
It's about understanding people, exploring traditions and discovering how language connects us across cultures.
By combining familiar foods and local experiences with American Thanksgiving traditions, our students will discover that even something as simple as a potato can become a bridge between cultures.
And that's what makes immersive learning so powerful: English becomes a language children use to discover, create, communicate and connect.
🍁 Let's Make November Delicious!
From farms and supermarkets to colourful science experiments, mashed potatoes and our Gratitude Tree, November promises a wonderful mix of learning, creativity and connection.
