What is the DarKha Academy Spanish Verb Challenge?
The Spanish Verb Challenge is an intensive month-long programme for adult learners. Participants work with at least one Spanish verb each day, practising its conjugations, meanings, pronunciation and use in real-life conversation.
Our motto?
🇪🇸 ¡Un verbo al día, un paso más hacia la fluidez! 🚀
How does the Spanish Verb Challenge work?
Each day, students choose a verb and work through the most useful Spanish verb forms, including the present, past tenses, future, conditional, subjunctive and imperative.
But conjugating is only the beginning. Students also:
📖 Read the conjugations aloud
✍️ Write sentences using the verb
🎙️ Record themselves speaking
💬 Use the verb in conversation
🇪🇸 Connect it to situations from everyday life in Spain
The objective is to move from recognising Spanish verbs to confidently using them.
Why is practising one Spanish verb a day effective?
Daily practice breaks a difficult area of Spanish into manageable steps. Repetition helps learners recognise patterns, while speaking and writing encourage the brain to retrieve the verb instead of simply recognising it on a worksheet.
One verb might not seem like much.
One verb every day for a month? That starts adding up. 💪
Which Spanish verb tenses do students practise?
Students explore the major verb forms they need to communicate confidently in Spanish, including the present, pretérito perfecto, pretérito, imperfecto, future, conditional, present and imperfect subjunctive, and imperative, as well as the participle and gerund.
We also ask an important question:
What does each tense actually communicate?
The goal isn't simply to remember endings. It is to understand why and when Spanish speakers choose each form.
How does the challenge help with speaking Spanish?
Knowing a conjugation on paper doesn't necessarily mean it will appear when you need it in conversation. 😅
By saying verbs aloud, recording sentences and deliberately using them in conversation, learners practise retrieving Spanish more quickly. Over time, commonly used forms can become easier and more automatic.
That means fewer moments of:
“Ayer yo… ummm… tener… tenía… tuve… ¡SOCORRO!” 🤯😂
…and more moments of:
“Sí, lo hice ayer, pero mañana lo haré otra vez.” 😎🇪🇸
That’s what we call going from stumbling to gliding.
How do students connect Spanish verbs to everyday life in Spain?
Every verb becomes personal. Students write sentences connected to situations they actually experience—at home, shopping, making appointments, eating out or talking with friends and neighbours.
This helps transform textbook Spanish into Spanish you can actually use while living in Spain.
Who can join the August Spanish Verb Challenge?
The challenge is designed for adult Spanish learners who want to strengthen their grammar, speaking and confidence. It is especially useful for learners who already know some Spanish but find that verb conjugations slow them down when they try to speak.
And perfection is definitely not required.
Some days will be:
😁 Muy fácil
🙂 Bastante bien
😅 Necesito practicar más
🤯 ¡SOCORRO!
They all count as learning.
